Epson SX410

I have an Epson SX410 printer and it is not printing black text.

I remember this happening a few months ago but leaving it whilst I used a CX3200 which did print OK, but as this is now giving problems I tried reverting back to the SX410.

I have put in a brand new set of cartridges, the colours are OK but the black just does not print despite head cleaning 5/6 times and nozzle checks, as said above this did the same months ago, any ideas what is causing it and how to fix it?

TIA.

I hate printers. Are the new cartridges by EPSON or a clone? You may have better luck with originals. How much use has the printer had? May be too clogged to fix. As a last resort try this reset program.

(SX410 is listed half way down)

When you carry out the nozzle check, what is the result. On my Epson printer there is a series of diagonal lines with colour and black. Can you see the black lines?

    They are compatables.
The printer is about? 4 years old but has not had a lot of use.

The colours seem OK but the black produces nothing, I have printed words using red, yellow and blue, they all print out, but black prints nothing.

By setting font colour to Grey 50% or Grey 80%, it will print in these colours in Word, although I still won't be able to print from a web page or other via copy/paste in these colours.

Seems like a blocked nozzle. I don't know the particular printer but is it possible to set it to colour printing only in some way in the set-up/maintenance pages.

Had the same printer with the same problem. Had not printed anything using the black nozzle for a while so it dried out, blocking the nozzle.

There is a way to unblock it using a kind of kit you can get on ebay but it's a fiddly and potentially messy job. Had to get rid in the end and buy a new one

Not to my knowledge, but that would defeat the object anyway by still not being able to print in black.

    What did you buy?

Maybe that is the way forward.

Any recommendations as to a printer that will not get used on a regular basis but is cheap and cheerfull? Not sure if I want to get another Epson.
