Cat Flap installed

This isn't really a quote query, but wasn't sure where else to post...
I'm looking to get a cat flap installed in my back-door - what professional would I need to get quotes from?
I also want to consider getting a cat flap and the top glass replaced - is this a different profession?

It depends what material the back door is made of that you want the cat-flap put into?
If, it's wood, a general handy-man should be able to do that.
If it's glass, double-glazing repairs usually cover that as well.
Probably be up to you to select the cat-flap, if your cat has been micro-chipped (always wise), you can get ones that are micro-chip activated. The next one then, is with a collar with electronic key. And finally purely mechanical that any cat can come in by!
HTHs good luck.I used to work for Tesco - now retired - speciality Clubcard0 -
I got several quotes from local double glazing firms for my glass door. The prices varied by a £100!!! You must get a range of quotes to get the best price.
My glass door had an upper panel and a lower panel in a upvc frame.
I also got a lower price by changing the original lower glass panel for a plain upvc. I've kept the original glass panel, so that when I move out I can put the original panel back in and take my cat flap panel with me.
I would definitely recommend a microchip cat flap with a multiway lock ( allow in but not out, out but not in, etc,). Shop around as the prices vary enormously. I think the Cats Protection and some other animal charities sell them, they get a cut of the deal so it benefits everyone.0 -
Sorry - I should've been more specific ... It's a UPVC door with UPVC bottom and glass on top, like this:

I will definitely be looking at a microchip cat flap, they seem like a brilliant idea! (She just won't keep a collar on and I don't want every man and his cat being able to get in)
My top priority is to get the cat flap installed
Then, if it happens to be the same tradesman, I'll also ask about the glass. But I have other 'blown' glass in the house, so it can wait if it would need someone separate (or if separate tradesmen would likely work out cheaper)You were only killing time and it'll kill you right back0 -
Do you have any local UPVC door manufacturers/installers?
It may be cheaper to have a new bottom panel, with a pre-cut hole, fitted. They may also fit a cat flap at the same time.0 -
It wouldn't be a problem for your local glazing company to pop the panel out and cut the right hole in the bottom and fit you a fatclap . Local diy person too . if there are a few blown units your glazier and diyer would do that too . choose and pic your type suitable for your cat and buy it either on line or a decent petshop . Its not a hard job . Ive done a few (even for some peeps here) hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world :cool:0
