Cheap holidays booked at the very last second

Long term lurker, but never posted beforehand. Thanks for all the un-named help so far MSE has been a wonderful resource.

Right anyway.

Basically I've been looking for a week away sometime in the first week of september, ideally for around £250 pp for two adults. I've looked around and I'm occasionally being quoted something similar to that, but most of the time it's £60/70 pp more.
That's through all the travel agencies both online and teletext, and thomas cook who've actually been very helpful. However I heard something about getting very last minute deals 24 hours or so before you depart. I've heard of people doing it just by turning up at the airport and getting very last minute cancellations. Seeing as we are not restrained by locations or indeed times I was wondering if anyone knows anything about it? Even better would be if someone has any recommendations for how to go about it, and infact if it's even possible.

Looking to go away somewhere hot (Turkey/Greece etc) for 7 nights between the 1st and 7th September, ideally HB or AL for as cheap as possible. I got a price 246pp AL in turkey inc transfers leaving on the 6th but I'm convinced I can get either a better hotel or cheaper. Does anyone have any suggestions for very late bookings? Seeing as I'm not concerned with where we fly, or to a degree facilities (past it being sunny) I was hoping there was a way to get a very cheap holiday, possibly via cancellations etc.

Apologies for the rambling nature of the post. Any suggestions?

    Where can you fly from?
Where did you get your £246pp quote from?

  • sorry about that.

    Any London airport.

And the quote was from +448718550810. Its a company called sunsave holidays. I got them off the teletext holidays website though it wasn't one that was advertised on there. it's from the 6th-13th September from London Luton, which is doable. Would prefere Gatwick or Heathrow but any of the London airports are doable.

I'm in exactly the same boat as you very freaky same dates aswell dont care about where we go really just want to get away from the lovely English weather. The idea of turning up at the airport is something that i have been considering so any other information anyone has on the matter would be much appreciated.

    Thanks,
