Data Backup

I have a problem with my laptop. It takes for ever to boot. I think I need to reformat the hard drive and start again, but I must save what is on the drive before I reformat it. There is about 25Gig to save, so I think an external hard drive would be the answer. Does anyone have any experience as to which is the best and do I need to buy software to transfer the files etc.,?
Thanks.

You don't need to buy any software at all, just copy the files that you need, it's exactly as if the hard drive was in your computer.

As for the recommendation, I personally bought an extrnal case which then allows me to change between hard drives, dvd writer etc. It's up to you really, if you are looking for a slimline extrnal hard drive then you are going to pay a bit more but you have the bonus of it being very portable.

I buy most of my stuff from dabs.com so, but there are loads of places you can buy online, they are very popular now.
