You need to complain to the insurer first (the ombudsman will pass your complaint to them but this does lengthen the process) before the ombudsman will consider a complaint.

I believe the technical legal position is that integrated appliances are considered to be contents (Botham v TSB) but no insurer I'm aware of treats them this way.

That could be particularly relevant as the FOS refer to Botham v TSB in case study 30/5 in the link above posted by dacouch. Policy wording may override this though if it specifically excludes fitted appliances...
