Hi, I purchased a new car, the insurance for this from my current insurer was far to expensive. I decided to go with a new provider and asked for my policy to be cancelled.
my insurer wanted to charge me £50 for cancellation. I asked what this was for, the call handler stated this was for a 'admin' charge. Asking how long it would take to cancel my insurance, she replied simply by clicking a button. I asked how then can they justify the £50 admin charge. I stated that the charge should be reasonable. Quoting a European case outcome on reasonable admin charges, they agreed to cut the charge by 50% instantly. hope this helps others.

Please share the European case so that we can all get 50% off admin charges
(FOS seems quite happy with £50 cancellation fee)0

Probably chose to refund it as they thought you were more effort than you were worth. There is no EU case that has an impact on cancellation charges. But arguing the toss over £25 with someone quoting made up cases and trying to question justification when they wouldnt know if its justified is not worth it. Quicker to refund half and move on.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only.
