Over the last 6 weeks i have spoken to several companies re having solar panels. I have been quoted between 6k and 9k. I have also explored the free option with A Shade Greener who came back and stated i was not eligible due to trees out the front of my property even though they wont inhibit light on the roof. They have since my enquiry installed at my neighbours who have the same issue.
My dilemma is if a free installing company wont install due to trees why should i believe the companies that want my money.
Has anyone heard of a company called mainframe and are they any good.
Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum.
The problem with trees is not that they might 'inhibit light' but they may throw a shadow(shading) over the panels; particularly in winter.
Depending on the installation this shading can severely reduce the output of the panels; there are ways limit this problem, but it costs more.
On the face of things £6k to £9k is way over the top - many maximum size (4kWp) installations cost less than £5k these days.
Lastly the solar 'industry' is full of Cowboys who would sell you solar panels if you lived in a basement flat;)
If you want to know about a particular firm, ask a question in the 'Green and Ethical' section of MSE as that's where all the solar experts contribute.0
