Halifax problems

In September I completed a form on MSN to claim back bank fees. I received a letter today not related to that but it contained a information sheet titled Financial services compensation scheme. It reminded me that I'd not heard. So I called halifax and they told me I had been sent 2 letters and had a phone call all from SHAMILA, I've not received anything not even a phone call. This person has lied about contacting me. They have said my case is void because I had my iPhone added to the insurance, this was done on the day I opened my account when I was told I would receive £5 per month from the bank for having this account. I'm so upset that Halifax have continuously lied to me. I don't know what to do or how to prove I've had no contact. This lady has even wrote down our conversation we were supposed to have. It's so upsetting to have someone I don't even know lie about this :-( can anyone Advie me what I can do now as I pay a monthly fee aswell as over draft charges as my financial situation has changed since they conned me into having this account :(

In what way did they con you?

If you submitted a form on MSN was it a claims management company you used?
  • They didn't tell me after the first year there would be a 10/15 a month fee each month for my account.
I searched on this site how to reclaim charges back and filled in a form from here. There was no claim company involved. It was a form that helps you write your own letter of complaint

You're basically trying to get back packaged account fees right?

What were your reasons for complaint?

If you said you didn't know about it or didn't need it as part of the complaint but registered your phone for the free insurance it rather negates those reasons.

I am curious about your "charges after the first year" comment - the halifax reward current account gives you £5 a month but this doesn't include phone insurance, you have to be on the ultimate reward account to get the insurance and this has a £10 monthly fee (£15 if you don't pay in £750 a month and have 2 direct debits).

So can you clarify which were you on?

I have had both accounts and regularly got mail explaining the fees and benefits (including when they changed it from a £15 fee with £5 reward to just £10) for the ultimate reward one so I don't know how you can say you weren't aware of the charges when they were taken out every month.

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.
