We're selling out house & going into rented for 6-12 months as we've just been gazumped & don't want to lose our buyers.

Not sure you want to apply for a shedload of current accounts if you might need a mortgage in a few months time.
NS&I is usually the best place to park a larger sum for a short period of time0 -
