Trying to sort out warm home discount for friend, he has received it for two years maybe three? he apparently is in the 'broader group' he gets DLA and ESA


He is with n power and always has been and will continue to be, he says. He likes familiar!


Now he has heard that this discount as he already had qualified for it, will be automatically applied, so no need to fill in form again..certainly he has not re applied for this year cos he didn't think he needed to. He also can't remember how he did it before...


I have spent most of the morning on phone to n - power, all to no avail, first was given an 0845 number, then went to' say no to 0870' (and 0845) and got alternate numbers, tried these, to be told, all of these excuses:- they know nothing about the scheme, I had been given the wrong number, the government sort it out, they only dealt with pensioners, etc etc, ..


I seem to have no way to find out these queries;


So question 1. Are 'broader group' people automatically continued to be given it?


question 2. he is not aware of his tariff being changed, has received no notification of such, but was told by another neighbour, it will have now changed to a higher tariff because he gets warm home payment. So any gain will have been lost as such...

I registered just yesterday with my utilities provider, Scottish Power, for Warm Home Discount (WHD) which is something the power companies offer, and nothing to do with the Government's scheme which is the Winter Fuel Payment (WFP).

The WHD needs to be applied for every year around May, and is a DISCOUNT off one's fuel bill of £140 if you meet the qualification criteria. It does NOT affect your tariff. It is paid around March each year.

The WFP on the other hand is for people who were born before January 1953 and is between £100 and £300 depending on your circumstances and is paid AUTOMATICALLY into your bank account.

So bottom line, you need to apply annually to your power company for the Warm Home Discount. To apply please call 0808 172 6999.

He needs to apply online. It is still possible to apply now.

His tariff will not be changed due to the WHD. His neighbour is talking rubbish
