Please & Thank You

Don't people use these expressions any more?

I'm an avid user of Freecycle/Freegle etc., and whenever I've posted a Want, I always say "Please" in my ad. This is so obviously lacking in the majority of Want ads. If somebody cannot say "Please", even if I have the item they want, then I don't respond to them.

Whenever I've received anything I always email them to say "Thank You". I very rarely seem to get a "Thank You".

If somebody answers my Offered ads and they respond in text speak, they are ignored.

Then there are those who make a big song and dance about wanting something so badly they'll die if they don't get it.

If anybody wants about 50 yards of plain white net curtaining, 36" depth (new) in two patterns, just PM me if you're within Ascot collection area or close - after a week of getting messed around by somebody who really, really wanted it, I've had enough. Off to charity shop tomorrow.

I always say Please & Thank you, not just on freecycle and it does annoy me when others don't.
I think the best thank-you i had on freecycle was when i gave a bike away.
This young girl came to collect it and told me she was from somewhere down South but was a student at Liverpool Uni. Then out-of-the-blue over two years later i got an email from here saying how 'Herbert' (she'd named the bike) and how helpful he'd been to her getting around the City. But now she was returning home back to the South and had passed him on to one of her student friends.
How many people would do that after a couple of years ?
Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.

On the rare occasions I ask for any advice on here or other forums, I always say 'please' and take the trouble to thank anybody who replies.

However, a lot of people don't.

I'm not sure if this is because they think they don't need to be polite because they're not talking to the person face-to-face or if they're just plain rude. smiley-confused013.gif

What I always find amusing (in an annoyingly amusing sense) is that when people post genuinely useful and helpful posts, there are usually few, if any, thanks.

However, let anyone make a post belittling an OP or being patronising and/or critical of their post, and the thanks pour in.

I didn't mean hitting the 'thanks' button.

If I've asked for advice, I always post to say 'Thank you' - most often on the OldStyle board.

If I see a post saying' Hey! I need to know xxx' I might just ignore it - even if I know the answer. :D

I knew what you meant, but it seemed to be in the same line of politenesses (or lack of).

If I asked a question, myself, I would make a thank you post for a helpful answer, but if it's someone else's question I just use the thanks system.
