Tax refund after redundancy

Options
Hi all

I was made redundant in May and claimed contributions based JSA for 6 months until yesterday when it was stopped. I am now planning on studying for a while. I've rung the Tax Office and they need a P45 from the jobcentre and won't do anything til 35 days after that. So I can't claim til nearer Christmas. So my question is I've tried to calculate what I could get back, am I thinking correctly?

Taxable Pay £10343
JSA earned £1753
Tax code 1066L

Tax paid on £10343 = £2029
JSA tax ??

I believe I should only be taxed on £2036 so should therefore get a rebate but am I right?

Confused

Comments

  • Thanks so much. I'm glad i was on the right track.
  • If you handed your original P45 in to the Job centre you should receive an automatic tax refund from DWP for the period to when you stopped your Job seekers claim.

This will be reflected on the P45 DWP send you i.e. it will show the total of your pay from the job and any job seekers allowance and the total tax from your job less any repayment made by DWP
