I have 5V USB chargers to spare as most stuff comes with one so am unlikely to be buying one but if I did and a poundshop was selling one with a reasonable output power I would get it. Unlike auction site sellers poundshops wouldn't risk incurring the wrath of trading standards IMO so any CE marks would be genuine. That said I've yet to see a USB charger on sale in one.

I have bought a regulated multivoltage PSU from an eBay seller that was potentially lethal - you got a shock off the power jack on it. I sent photos of a tester screwdriver glowing on it but they were reluctant to replace it so I had to go through the eBay dispute procedure to get a refund.
  • Interesting, the manufacturers ones (Apple, HTC, etc...) appear to be far safer to use!

If electrical items are sold in the UK they must comply with European standards and carry a CE mark to show that. https://www.gov.uk/guidance/ce-marking#products-that-need-ce-marking Notice that the government website also mentions CE mark without inserting any space.

    China Export

The difference between the CE logo and alleged "China Export" mark.
A logo very similar to CE marking has been alleged to stand for China Export because some Chinese manufacturers apply it to their products.[17] However, the European Commission says that this is a misconception. The matter was raised at the European Parliament in 2008.[18] The Commission responded that it was unaware of the existence of any "Chinese Export" mark and that, in its view, the incorrect application of the CE marking on products was unrelated to incorrect depictions of the symbol, although both practices took place. It had initiated the procedure to register CE marking as a Community collective trademark, and was in discussion with Chinese authorities to ensure compliance with European legislation.[19]

Yes, unfortunately lots and lots of sellers of these items on Amazon, Ebay and elsewhere don't care or don't know what they're selling and Trading standards have no chance in hell of catching the hundreds and thousands of resellers of these death traps. Then when you factor in the faked items that do have the correct labeling, it's virtually impossible to keep track of these things.
