I have just bought a personal plate from the DVLA website. I was dreading the process as I imagined a long drawn out affair with delays and documents going missing in the post etc, but I have to say I was (extremely) pleasantly surprised.

I bought the plate on-line last Tuesday, received the certificate of entitlement document in Thursday's post, went and got the plates made at a local motor factor (£10.99 for the pair - bargain, Halfords were asking £15.95 per plate).

I rang the insurance on Friday to swap the details and fitted the plates. On Saturday morning I received the new V5 document.

Very impressed with the efficiency

Ha! I know what you mean but fair play to them, it couldn't have gone more smoothly

Funny - of all the sites I've had to make payments on and all the official bodies I've had to deal with, the DVLA is probably the simplest of the lot. It's a branch of government that just seems to get on with the job it is supposed to do with the minimum of fuss and bother.

And it does it without occupying a horrendously expensive facility in London. A case where devolving government out of London worked. Something other departments could take note of - I mean why is the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs in central London ?

Perhaps the good people of Swansea are significantly better & more efficient than those in Whitehall - who knew. I know the times I've had dealings with them (admittedly only a couple of times) it was always quick & easy.
Retired member - fed up with the general tone of the place.
