Old type ps2 drawer not opening

Hi, i wonder if anyone can help, my sons ps2 old style fatter version, the drawer wasnt closing fully and was stuck so i pushed it in so it is in alignment with the body but it is not opening. The disc is able to be read and played, I have turned it upside down and placed it flat as opposed to standing up as it was before, does anyone have any suggestions please? Thanks
