My water butt has a kinda rubber lid which has perished and cracked and needs replacing but they're quite expensive to buy and I am cash poor!
Any ideas of what to use MSE style?
Thanks

I suppose you have a point. My father used to use an old galvanised water tank from an attic for his and I remember eating bits of ice from the surface of it in the winter.
On the other hand, I'm still alive :j0 -
My water butt is an old blue plastic chemical barrel that I got from my Dad years ago (no, he wasn't Walter White). He put a tap in it for me and made a lid out of a piece of wire mesh and bent it into place with pliers. Keeps the leaves and stuff out, but lets the air in.0
