Drive Happy or breakdown unhappy

I know a lot of people are in a similar position with carcraft and their drive happy service/MOT plan
since they went into administration and could not fulfil their commitments.

This is a quick run-down of where I am
my partner and I bought a car from Carcraft using suggested finance option of creation finance wrapped up in the monthly payments was the drive happy scheme which sounded like a good deal 3 years free MOT and services we used this for the first two years without a problem and before the 3rd years the company went into administration. We paid the loan in full within the first 20 days (as advised by the carcraft agent with a bank loan at a much better interest rate)

The service and MOT was due on my car at the end of August thinking I had no chance of getting anything out of Carcraft I went ahead and got both done at my local Vauxhall dealer. only to receive a letter a few weeks after stating that a different company (Carcare plan ltd) was taking on the warranty and service plan.

I wrote to the new company to see if I could get the money I had spent refunded as they stated that my cover started on the 1st September (the same week I had got the service and MOT done).
They refunded me for a part that had to be replaced that would've been covered by the warranty but then informed me firstly that I should contact Halfords (the company they use for servicing and MOTs) I was pretty sure this wasn't right as they had not done any of the works, they (Halfords) said I should contact the original finance company. On a second communication with Carcare plan they then went on to say that I would need to contact the finance company to refund the service and MOT costs.

I feel like Carcare plan are being deliberately difficult hoping I will give up in my pursuit of this refund, in my eyes they now hold the policy so should fulfil the commitments of it. Especially as they didn't inform me until well after the date of the policy starting (25 days) knowing full well that my service and MOT would be overdue by that point.
To be honest I'm not bothered if they don't issue a refund but extend the plan by an extra year so I get what I paid for.

So you had work done to the vehicle without confirming that the service and Mot plan would be continuing after the liquidation?

How can that be the new companies fault?
  • The service and MOT plan was initially cancelled when Carcraft went into liquidation.
I had work done because I hadn't been informed another company was taking over the policy and should they have informed me when the policy started (sept 1st) rather than 25 days later I would have been covered and arranged it according to their terms/through their approved company

Is this just because you financed the payments? I've not heard anything but was supposed to be getting my first MOT and Service for free.

Depending on where you are in the country I think a few different companies have taken on the drive happy policy, you should receive a letter to confirm this but as I mentioned I didn't receive mine in time. If you dig through your original paperwork from when you bought the car there maybe a number you can phone to find out if it has been picked up by a new company. The company that took mine over is called Carcare plan ltd.
Also I understand that Carcraft are about to resume trading according to their website so they may have an active number for you to phone and find out
    Hope this helps
  • I must say Creation finance are being very helpful in looking into this for me - I say this because I read a lot of bad reviews regarding their customer service.
They have copies of all the documents now so hopefully will hear in the next week or so whether or not they will reimburse me or extend the policy for an additional year to cover my losses hopefully the 1st one as I can then pay a lump off my CC.
