Provident debt sold to vanquis
Hello
I've just had a letter today saying my provident debt has been sold to vanquis, I thought these were the same company.
I had a loan with provident and i moved to a rural location, the agent asked I could drop the payments off to her since she didn't drive which was fine for a while but then i seen sense and realised it's costing me about £7 in fuel each time I paid
Anyway bit of hassle regarding collection and switching agents, finding someone willing to drive out to me had put me into arrears but anyway as a result I stopped paying.
I do have a credit card with vanquis with a fairly high limit which the just upped today same day as I got this letter.
I dont understand how they can write to me telling me they've sold the debt to vanquis, I'll need to see if their the same Ltd company or if their separate.
I'd happily pay the provident lloan I'd pay the amount borrowed initially but not double what I borrowed.
It was defaulted last December, I know for it to be statue barred it's five years and only if I don't acknowledge the debt in writing but my question is would talking on the phone effect me or is it only written acknowledgement?
I would like to have the debt settled, even if it's partially settled, I have five credit cards and and four store accounts all in order which total around £7000 available credit
I Googled provident debt sold to vanquis but no results, perhaps they have seen my good payment record with vanquis and assumed I'd pay the full provident loan to them.
Does anyone know of the top of their head if they are the same company trading under different names?
No trolls please I eat trolls for breakfast, lunch and dinner

Hello
Does anyone know of the top of their head if they are the same company trading under different names?
They are not the same company but are part of the same group. Vanquis are a subsidiary company of Provident, but are a separate legal entity in their own right. Its amazing how these banks can't even do simple calculations correctly..............0 -
Yeah I just looked, different companies under the same roof
Obviously seen I've been good with vanquis never missed a payment, if they call I'll discuss part settlement I'll offer to pay the full amount I initially borrowed.
See how that goes0 -

To be statute barred it's six years (unless in Scotland, when it's five years) from the last payment made or when the debt was last acknowledged in writing. Phone calls don't count."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0 -
Vanquis is a credit card issuer not a DCA. Why should they have bought a defaulted loan from a doorstep lender?
If loan defaulted last December why do you believe it to be statute barred as only 11 months have elapsed not 6 years?0 -
Can you be defaulted if a collector does not come to your address ?
Surely your allowed to live where you want as long as you tell them.
Their problem to collect surely.0 -

You can be defaulted when you don't pay. Someone calling, or not calling, at your address doesn't enter into it.
It is your job to ensure you make payments that you owe.
If someone took out a Provident loan is central Manchester and then moved to, say, Inverness, miles from the nearest house, would you still expect Provident to call every week?"There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0 -
It's possible to make card payments to Provident 24/7 via 0800 916 6440, so I don't know why the OP had to make trips costing £7 a pop.
And it seems odd that Provident would transfer a doorstep loan to their credit card division. :huh:0 -
If I had an agreement in place that stipulated a collector, then I would expect a collector.0

I'd like to pay my mortgage lender only what I originally borrowed - unfortunately I made an agreement to pay interest as well (and to make a payment every month).loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.0

Ditto.
Does not look like she has tried very hard to make alternative arrangements credit card etc..0
