Teen savings account. Best deal?

When my children were born their grandparents opened savings accounts for them which was Nationwode Smart account with a passbook.

They are now 14 and 16, and both have about £3k in each account.

We don't want them to have access to this money until they are at least 18.

I've just seen Martin talking about childrens savings on TV, and it got me thinking if this account is the best around at the moment.
He mentioned these:

Halifax junior regular saver 6%.
Nationwide smart limited acc. 3% variable.
Nationwide junior savings ISA 3.25%

Could any of these be opened without the child having to sign anything?
Can could the smart account be 'switched' to a different bank or would we have to draw the money out then open the new account?

Can anyone advise?

Information on how to open them will be on the websites.

There is no switching service for normal savings accounts.

NB. Not sure why the Halifax cash JISA isn't on the list.

    Do your children have JISAs?

Have you looked at the Halifax offering? See here http://www.halifax.co.uk/isas/cash-isas/

The money will be accessible at age 18.

Thanks both. If I was to open the Halifax JISA for the over 16yr old, it says you may need to bring ID into a branch, could this be done by a parent? he only has a birth cert. or student ID card.

It's just neither of them know about this money, we want it to be for something worthwhile (deposit/car etc) and not frittered away on clothes or games. Suppose they will know about it when they turn 18.
