Hotpoint 5 year parts warranty but no longer make the part needed!

I purchased an American Fridge Freezer from the Hotpoint shop in August 2011. The fridge came with a 5 year parts warranty. Recently I noticed the fridge was not as cool as it should be. I called Hotpoint who stated they would send an engineer at a cost of £109. The engineer came and examined the fridge. He stated the compressor had broken, and they did not make the compressor anymore due to the type of gas in it (apparently its now not legal) and therefore the fridge is irreparable. Hotpoint have stated there is nothing they are prepared to do this this case, and it is not their fault the law has changed!!

I now have a Hotpoint fridge with a five years parts warranty, that they cannot fix as they don't make the part! Does anyone know if Hotpoint can be held accountable for this?

If you decide to go down their warranty route then you are stuck with their terms, what does their warranty say in respect to not having the available parts?

Was the engineer a hot point engineer?

Your only recourse would be to get an independent report stating the fault was an inherent manufacturing fault and then pursue them under SoGA.

You've discovered the flaw in the Hotpoint 5 year parts only warranty-it's a scam whereby the 'free' parts cost is recovered by the labour charges, since you have to repair using only a Hotpoint authorised agent.
