Tuesday 10th Nov - what small DFW things will you do today?
ClootiesMum
When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym .
But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.
Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.
So be proud of those small steps, they really are important. :money:

Good morning people (for the second time in my case).
Paper bin lift today - they have to be out by 6am & I've got the neighbour's bin to put out too as she's away for a break. Guess what blew over at 4.30 this morning - DH heard it & we both went out to rescue debris. Me half asleep & him on 2 walking sticks.....pretty picture we made. Also - as soon as we got up dogs wanted out - I put them out the back while we cleaned up - door shut on them & said dogs started barking to get in. Bet the other neighbours love us.
All is calm now though and I have coffee
Proactive MSE-ing- Follow up e-mail received concerning ye olde endowment policy
- Take consultant's letter for DH to work to chase up another appointment for him
- Dig out rucksacks for car bags - still not done - tonight, I promise
- Decided I'm not doing Christmas this year

Round tuits- Unloved sock drawer will be tackled tonight
- Set up OWL to monitor electricity usage - thanks clf
Good habit forming (28 days to set a habit into daily routine or something like that - I'm going for 1 a week)- Post on here once a day 15/28
- Get up at 6 am on work days 8/28 - not a work day - but still counted
- Tidy house before going to bed 1/28
- DH has found someone with series 5 of the Walking Dead for us to watch - awaiting delivery of this
- Check banks
- Ironing
No more Mins game played yet - was really tired yesterday so early bed called
But I've heated up soup for lunch today & it's in a flask ready to go - lunch is all made & fire has been set.
Tidying the house before going to bed is a no-brainer as it makes getting up much easier - I will spread this to other rooms too but they need tidied first before they can be sorted before bed - might do the bedroom tonight.
Anyhow, I'm rambling now - must go and slurp coffee before getting off to work.
Have a good day y'all and be careful out there (anyone else remember that TV series? What was it called?)Debts 07/12/2021

Hi ClootiesMum :hello:
Thanks for the kick off. Oh dear - I can totally imagine your morning. My dog would've been the very same. He started grumbling in the middle of the night - I thought a neighbour was taking their bin out at 3am on the wrong day... Nope, turns out it was our gate flying open, busting the lock, and battering off the fence... Our neighbours must love us too
I've been shocked into sorting car insurance. Got a renewal quote that is £500 more expensive than what we paid last year!!! Well, I know we moved areas but that is a complete joke, esp as we've had no claims! It's a shame because I did like the company but there is no way I can stay with them.
Will be back when I have got over the shock and have some quotes

Wow early start for you CM. Sounds a bit stressful!
La E - these companies do take the mick don't they. Good luck finding something more competitive." Your vibe attracts your tribe":D

Morning all

Thanks for the start Clootiesmum. You have my sympathy with the bin situation - we always seem to get that just after Christmas when the recycling bin is overflowing. I remember chasing paper all over the place a couple of years ago...
LaE - is it worth getting a quote online for your current insurance company as a new customer? Sometimes makes a real difference.
I'm exhausted and need matchsticks today to prop my eyes open. zzzzzz
Check banking - no PAD
load of washing
nsd
all food from stores
full teaching day
mark a set of books (unlikely)
meeting with the Head after school
observed lesson
extra chemistry class
contact a friend
don't make any big decisions
try not to get hysterical
Have a good day allNot giving up

Good Morning Everyone
Clottiesmum - Thanks for starting us off today and ouch to all that drama in the night
Jonno - Ouch to washing machine dramas - how come they almost always happen when weather is awful?
LaE - I second CCL's suggestion of getting a new quote for existing Insurer that's what we did
Bob - we miss you and your posts, I can't believe how quickly time is flying and that your DD is 5 weeks already
CCL - Big hugs, you are doing an amazing job keeping it altogether considering the immense stress you are under
Hi to all of the regulars and a BIG welcome to all the newbies, this is a really FAB thread with so many lovely, caring, considerate and supportive people.

Well, I've managed to shave a nice £400 off the quote so far. :T Is still £100 more that what we paid last year but that's cos we've moved to the big city postcode and away from the 'countryside'...
Here's what else is happening today:- Voluntary work - must do this on my lunch

- Trying to sort 0% deal with current cc company - she can but ask

- Get back to BTL EAs re tenancy renewal - completely forgot about this after last week!

- Bit of online First Aid course :A
- Made HM fruity jelly pots for 3pm work pick-me-up
- Bit of meditation course :A
- Email yoga peeps - another must do

Ever get that feeling you are just about keeping your head above water and there is so much you've got to sort out?! Arghhh...

La E - Yes! You manage to keep your head above the waterline, but never quite get your shoulders out.2026's challenges: 1) To rebuild our Emergency Fund to at least £5k.
2) To read 50 books (12/50) 3) The Re-Shrinking of Foxgloves 8.1kg/30kg
Remember....if you have to put it on a credit card, extend your overdraft or take out a loan to buy whatever it is, you probably can't afford it, as that's not your money, it's somebody else's!0 -
Thanks Ziggy that's nice of you. I'm keeping in the loop as much as time allows really and new baby plus illness back to back have not a good situation made. But hey. We move on. I am another nodding wildly to your statement La E. Not drowning. Just waving

Thanks to clootiesmum for starting us off. This windy weather is madness! I spent 10 minutes chasing all the poppy wreaths round the village and putting them back on the war memorial.
ccl - good luck for your observation lesson. Also I hope that you get some help from the crisis team for dh. It's very hard to watch your partner so ill *hugs*
Big hugs to everyone
