O/S Daily Tuesday 10th November 2015

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning everyone

HH – thinking of you, your hubby and family, hugs x

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

DH up gone to work stupid stupid early DS1 now getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit, will wake him in a bit.

Now getting light, wind has now eased off.

Dinner last night was frittata, HM coleslaw, new potatoes and salad – enjoyed by us all, especially as I managed to get the frittata nearly cooked on the hob then put the pan into the oven to finish off, last time I made it the bottom of the frittata was burnt, this time I managed to use lower heat not burn it and then get it into the oven – it was just the top right in the middle that needed to set – once it had I sprinkled grated cheese on it and then put it back into the oven just to melt whilst I served up the rest of the food and it worked excellently. Tonight we’re having sausage and mash, veg and gravy.

Work yesterday was a strange day – it was either manic or dead – it made the day pass quickly though. Working from the local office today so not quite so far to travel.

Sat and read my kindle last night for a while once all the menfolk had gone to bed, as there was nothing on tv that I wanted to watch and I’d started reading in my lunch break at work and the battery got too low so it shut down, so I wanted to finish reading what I’d started.

Keep safe and well x

    Morning everyone.

HH - I hope you take time to relax a little and be content that you did your very best to ease the passing of your MIL. Condolences too.

My coach journey back from Glasgow was much slower than normal because of the truly awful weather. At least I wasn't facing doing the drive myself and could sit back and be warm and comfortable. Once I got back to the nearest town I picked up a small Chinese meal, walked to the car and drive home. I ate the food out of the container and then went straight to bed.

The weather is still atrocious out there, high winds and rain all night so now I'm worrying about OH driving up from Newcastle. I think he should stay put!

Talking of staying put - I'm staying in bed a while longer.

I hope everyone has a good Tuesday.
  • Morning all

Thinking of Mr TA and hoping he is ok.

Happy Birthday for yesterday to Marie's DH.

Elona, I hope you find something you like and all goes smoothly.

    Judi, thinking of you.

I'm off to work in a sec, just to make inroads into the pile of work, I probably won't work all day, it will depend on how hubby is. I stood by his side for 3 hours yesterday as he held his mum's hand & held him throughout the night as he cried.

In someways I envy him his grief, the horror of my ex's behaviour during my father's death and funeral has left me dry eyed at these times.

We now wait for the funeral & I watch from the sidelines wondering if the family will make it until then or if it will implode before like some giant supernova. I will continue to be my husbands rock, whatever happens.

On a happier note, DD has has accepted an offer on her house of 5 thousand over her asking price, has placed an offer on the house she wants, both houses are off the market now and all parties have an mortgage offer in principal. Fingers crossed it all goes through quickly as DD and her hubby have 5 children & 2 dogs in a 3 bed house.

    Have a good day everyone.

    Hugs Hester

    Morning all,

Thinking of you and your family Hester x

Off out in a minute with the dogs, it's still windy out there and was bad in the night, lay awake listening to the roof tiles being lifted up so really hope that there is no damage.
Managed to get out yesterday lunchtime and meet up with a friend who recently retired, we celebrated the fact that have managed to get away from the awful work environment, the stories coming out of the place are horrendous, person put in charge of our old department has turned into some kind of power crazed monster so think we are best out of it :(

Not much planned for today, need to get some petrol so will make use of run into town to drop some books off at CS and pick up some fruit & veg at the weekly market.

Anyways, girls are getting restless, hope everyone has a good day x

Hester, you have so much to deal with, try and get some rest.
Gers - What horrid weather for you to travel in, at least you didn't have to drive in it.

Met friends for tea, I had a meal with chips for the first time in ages and quite enjoyed them. It was good to catch up.

Came home to find the builders stil here fixing downstairs tiles, the chap from the tile company didn't come, he says he is coming tonight. I went into the loft to retrieve pictures that had been put up there before all the renovation works, in fact some are there from when we moved in, the wood frames don't really suit this house so I either have to paint them all black or have them re-framed. Don't really want to put them up just for the sake of it.

I did find a mirror with a shelf that I had bought for a certain space but the colour was just off so I have stained that the same as all the door frames.

DD phoned to say that she has been asked by her big boss to apply for a job within the company so I spent a few hours helping her with her CV, quite difficult by e-mail and phone! It got to 11pm and we decided our brains were dead so will speak to her again today.

Need to go to the charity shop on the way home from work but apart from that nothing exciting today. The weather seems to have calmed down but the epic rain of yesterday has left many places flooded although it does seem to be a lot milder this morning. Take care. XX

    Morning all,

Looks very wintery outside but no rain atm, not sure whats in store weather wise.

Off to work today Tuesday is a good day client wise so should be good fun.

Some kind of mince dinner tonight might do a chilli and rice with sour cream and wraps.

Also need to post the ebay as we did not get round to it yesterday.

Hester thinking of you and your DH, he must be so thankful to have you on his side xxx

    Have good days all xx
  • Good morning all, have just lost a post so trying again.

Hester thinking of you today and your beloved Husband, it must be so difficult for him, but I know you will be keeping a close eye on him.

TA I hope DH is OK, will he feel poorly over the next few days?

Judi, I have never thought of you as a vulnerable lady. You seem to cope with what life throws at you, and I know it must be so difficult not knowing how your Mum will be from one day to the next.

I was very good yesterday, I cleaned all my kitchen cupboards out and have a load of stuff to take to the Hospice shop this morning. I was quite tired by the end of the day but it was very satisfying.

Hugs to anyone who would like or needs one and I hope most of us have a reasonable day.
