I was wondered how much of your assets (not debt) are currently involved in property as an overall percentage? Do you plan to increase this percentage over next 2 years, reduce or remain unchanged.

What other areas do you invest assets?

I think I have about 80% in property and I plan to keep this stable.

Is that 80% the equity in your property, or have you forgotten to knock the value of your mortgage off your property value?

I am currently about 99% in cash, the rest is shares.

I'm about 95% in property and aim to keep it that way, not including company pension I've just started paying in to.

8 years ago I saw newly separated and had only 7k to my name, used it as deposit on house. Year later got another 11k in shares as part of divorce. Sold them. Not enough to move to 'nicer area' so used as deposit on BTL across the square from me (only cost 28k plus 3k to do up). Since then have bought another 3 BTL's and moved to lovely area with new partner.

My initial stake of 18k has now given me equity (not including mortgages) of over 125k (not including partner's share). Mortages on BTL's & house are 250k (in joint names but still scary)...... but BTL's pay for themselves and tick over quietly in background. House prices would need to half before we lost all our equity, and drop to something like 3% of today's value to lose our initial stake.

The shares came off OFEX last year as company was purchased, I believe the price per share was something like 40% down on the value I sold them at...... Am happy I did the right thing, not changing now......
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

Planning v Circumstances.? Anyone fancy doing a 2 year forecast of: interest rates, taxes, chances of promotion or redundancy, increase or reduction in salary, rise or fall in house prices (or a few other things I may have missed).?

Currently around 20% property, 30% pension, 50% cash (including long-term fixed savings, National Savings, and CITFs) - not planning to change, but I'm sure it will anyway...
