Glide Bills - avoid & advice?!

Options
Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone could advise on a problem we have had with the above and maybe point out something we might have missed?
Basically in our previous student house (lived there from 1st September 2014 - 28th June 2015) we moved in and Glide was already set up for us to use, which we didn't want but ended up using anyway. The tenancy was for 4 of us, but I only stayed in the house for 10 days of the whole year so i'd say the usage was more for 3 people. This was for gas & electric only, we paid everything else seperately. We were paying anything between £45-90 a month each. Our last payment came out at the end of June, and this was the last we had heard of it as we presumed the account was closed as we'd moved out to our next house.

Last week we received an email from Glide, stating we owe £480 each  as the account closing balance. They say they can do this up to 12 months after someone has moved out?! How can it take them 4 months to work this out? I will copy & paste our readings that I can still see on the account, so please if you can see anything which looks wrong point it out (I'm not very good with these things) most appear to be estimates?

Thanks for any advice, we've had calls from them threatening bailiffs already, we haven't paid anything yet obviously as we'd like to know everything is correct before moving forward

  • Strangely enough last time we've called, you were absolutely no help at all, no wonder there are so many negative reviews in fact I've never read a positive one.

    Can anyone advise?

The data given are insufficient to come to many firm conclusions but here goes: electricity- looks like 1958 kWh consumed between 27/11/14 and 23/4/15. This is ca. 3000kWh per annum which looks right and both figures are actual readings.
gas: all data quoted for your time of residency are estimates. To establish their credibility one would need to see some actuals from early in your time in residence. There is certainly a big jump in readings in August 2015 which casts doubt on the estimates. Assuming that these data are also in kWh then I might assume a consumption of 20,000 per annum biased heavily towards the Winter months ....say 10,000 total during your time of residence. All very approximate ...you really need those actual readings from late 2014.

OP, they can bill you up to 6 years after you moved out.
Did you not take opening reads, and then a final reading, and submit them when you moved out? If not, how do you expect them to send an accurate final bill? You say you 'presumed' the account was closed, but it's your job to contact the supplier and advise them that you are moving out-they are not psychic.
If you don't submit regular reads, at least every quarter, then a big catch up bill is inevitable, especially in a student house.
Because we don't know how much you've actually paid, it's impossible for anyone to say whether the final amount billed is correct or not. You need to do the number crunching yourself by working out the total cost based on usage (from the meter readings and tariff rates), and then deduct payments made.
If you only received the final bill last week, you cannot possibly have had calls from 'bailiffs'. Debt collectors maybe-a very different thing.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
