I have been living in my flat for 18 months, its ok very cheap rent as ex council estate (even though done out 20 years ago the stigma never went) now a lot of Polish tenants I have fallen out with my landlord due to benefits changing and so had to wait a month for reassessment (which was paid and now back in credit again) so not happy to be here.
Currently get a 2 bed flat for £275 a month unfurnished and its large, dull carpets which were new when I moved in, 20 minutes walk from main town centre which has a bus that takes 20-25 minutes to city centre, another route is 5 minutes to another local town that has Morrisons and loads of cheap takeaways.
The evening slow bus to city takes a hour but runs to 1am and drops me off 5 minutes walk from house if I want a night out.
Main town centre has every expensive bars and 1 nightclub that is full or underage people and students and like £4 a drink.
Place I am looking at is on a housing estate but in a better town (though the housing estate looks even rougher)
Trains are have a fast train about 4 or 5 times a day that take 15 minutes to a city and regular ones that either take 25 or 35 depending on route and stops.
Rent is £275 for a 3 bedroom flat with a nicer kitchen and new doors which should show how rough the area is.
But the route the bus takes means 30 minutes to town centre and a further 20 to the city.
Trains are regular and take 20-25 minutes to the city from town centre.
Take aways in the area are fantastic but more expensive, has many more bars in the town centre and as a local university has student nights where its £1 drinks.
Now I dont go out that often, maybe twice a year but that is more down to just not bothered.

Where on earth do you live that's that cheap in rent?!?
You'd be looking at £550+ for a 2 bed here, and we're by no means a wealthy city!0 -
Glasgow area, its hit and miss as outside the estate I currently stay its more like £400 for a small 1 bed flat, and even as cheap as £150 a month in the roughest part of estate as no carpet or curtains and dingy they are that desperate.
Its a shame as it means flats get boarded up and knocked down that are livable yet they build new flats a mile away as they say theres a shortage!0 -
Well personally if the other estate looks rougher, I'd stay where I was.0

I don't get it.
If you go out so rarely why would licensed premises and drinks prices be a main driver for whether to move?
On the chance I have a friend round we can go for a drink, or a night out and right now I normally get train to Glasgow and a taxi back as it still works out cheaper hen £3/£4 drinks in local bars even with the £20 taxi fare home especially if you share it
And sometimes its nice to go for a meal and a drink in a local cheap pub.
And its not the main thing its a side issue, sort of like local shops I prefer a town centre to a shopping centre for example and corner shops with good take aways(I dont mean I will be eating takeaways every day but want the option to go for a walk when bored and not walk for a long distance to find somewhere)
Basically I dont want to live somewhere that I have go get a bus to go to shops or nearest supermarket or I will feel boxed in even if a big property.
I forgot to also mention another reason, I have furniture in current proprety all I own, moving would be awkward but doable (better to do it in 2 goes i.e boxes first then furniture seperate that way wont need to store stuff)
In terms of location current one is better in the sense of transport links and close to large supermarkets, small town centre but has the big names. its 1 mile to main town with the shops and a few supermarkets, a further 2 miles to another town with the same large supermarkets and some reasonable shops, 2 miles in opposite direction from where I live has nice takeouts, cheap Morrisons (often get 9p ready meals, bread, cakes) and access to multiple museums within about 5 miles its just purely everything you have to travel to.
Town 2 which is only 2 miles away has a museum, cinema, cheap bars if you want a drink, some nice cafes, car transport links are as good, bus ones are as good from town centre, negatives though is that because it has everything in town you have to go to town for everything0 -
I'd go for the one with the nearest amenities.. shops and take aways. I can't work out which one that is with your muddled description.0

I can see the point about wanting local shops etc without having to always get busses all the time - I think my idea of hell would be living on some huge residential estate with just a poxy tesco express and not much else.0

Technically both are about the same for corner shops but the one now has 4 takeaways within 5 minutes walk (a chip shop, chinese and 2 kebab shops) and 2 corner shops but then its 20 minutes walk/1 mile to main town centre where the other shops are and all the takeaways are spread out over a big area but a library and Asda within a few minutes walk. or a few off licenses a mile in opposite direction and nothing else so everything bar the few locally is 15-25 minutes walk away.
Place 2 has more but spread out over a small area and main town centre is much larger.0
