will insurance payout a claim if i have an honest error

Help! I have had a motor accident which was my fault.
I have had the car from new and did not realise that some of the options i have could be classed as modifications. The options are OEM accessory wheels and body kit. I have no problem with paying an increase in premium due to my own mis-understanding in termenology on the application, Will the insurance company accept this and allow me to pay the increase and pay out the claim

The only people who can tell you definitely are the insurance company to be honest.

It depends on a number of variables.

The worst case will be if they wouldn't have taken you on had they known the truth.

Or if they decide it was a fraudulent attempt to lower the premium.
  • I have a BMW and the insurance is with BMW insurance, they also supplied 7 day cover when i initially purchased the car

Did the dealership ring BMW Insurance to arrange the cover or did the dealer key your details into their system by any chance?
  • Not sure how dealer delt with insurance, the sales person who delt with me no longer works at the dealership

So how were your details passed to BMW Insurance, did you contact them yourself or did someone else do it?
  • for the intial 7 day cover the dealer passed on the details, when I took out the full policy I contacted BMW insurance, I was looking for the best cover for my new pride and joy, not the cheapest

If you haven't spoken to your insurer yet, what has prompted you to suddenly remember the undisclosed options?

This could be interpreted that you knew all along and have suddenly 'remembered' only because you've caused an accident. You definitely do not want your insurer to take that view!
