  • Thank you so much for your help and advice everyone. :T

I have spoken to my ex ddil and she is coming to see me at the weekend, and will start the process of getting a letter from dgd consultant. Dgd is at risk of SUDEP and ,as I read it, would qualify for ESA. She is also happy for me to accompany dgd to assessments etc as 'responsible adult'. We both had a giggle about me being one!! :rotfl:
I feel better able to cope with this myself, just knowing there are the wonderful people on these forums to ask for help, advice and support when needed. :A

I think the confusion about seizures at night or daytime comes from the regulations on driving and NOT benefits

I would def put an esa and pip application in. With pip it's really useful to keep a diary for a week or so with every difficulty and remember if a person can't do a descriptor reliably as many times as they need, they cannot do that For pip purposes. X

If you ONLY have nocturnal seizures then yes, I believe so. You have to have been daytime seizure free for I think a year, and if you ever have a daytime seizure thereafter you have to stop driving until a daytime seizure-free year has passed.

  • Hi all,
Just a quick update. Spoke to an adviser for ESA on the phone and she was very helpful and understanding. Dgd was with me whilst talking to her and the lady asked her a couple of questions... dgd couldn't remember any answers but gave her permission for me to deal with it.

As a result, she will get ESA and, when we send in a doctors certificate, backdated for 3 months, they will backdate the payments. Spoke to her gp subsequently and the cert was at reception ready for her! :j

I am so pleased on her behalf that she will be getting support and some benefits. Once again, thank you for your help.
