Argos Faulty Product Return

I am absolutely fuming. I brought TOSHIBA CLK 8.9IN ATOM 2GB32GB WHT 2IN1 in July and for a few weeks it worked perfectly fine. It then stopped charging, so i took it to the store where i brought it , on 29th October.
I was told it needed to be sent away for repair and would take upto 16 working days to repair. I have just received a call telling me it is going to cost £329 to repair and did i want to go ahead with the repair?? Now as i only brought it in July for £299.99 i am not willing to spend that amount on it to be repaired. It is only 3 months old surely it is covered by a warranty??? I was told if i do not go ahead with the repair it would be returned unrepaired and it will not be back until next week. I will now have a useless laptop.
What are my rights? What can i do?
:mad::mad::mad:
Many thanks

What did they say the fault was?
If it was user damaged, then it will come down to the terms of any warranty provided. If it was due to an inherent fault, then, it would be down to the retailer to provide a remedy.
As its within 6 months from purchase, its for the retailer to prove its not an inherent fault.You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
They have said it is the motherboard0

They obviously have a reason to deny the warranty claim so they must found something, you need to find out what.0

There's got to be some reason why they aren't repairing it free under the warranty.
The Sale of Goods Act would also apply, which means that any fault within the first 6 months is assumed to be inherent unless the retailer* can show otherwise. That means they have to repair it (or refund or replace) at their own cost unless they can show you broke it.
If you paid by credit card, Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act also applies.
* That's the retailer, not the manufacturer.If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -

Go in to store you took it back to and have a chat with the manager and ask why.0

If the retailer has had the manufacturer to look at it and deemed it user damage then that report will be more than enough proof for the retailer to refuse a SoGA or warranty claim. Nowhere in the law does it say the retailer themselves have to have their own qualified person for every item they sell in order to dispute any such claims.0 -
I suspect the charging jack has been damaged, which is considered as a user-inflicted fault. Tripped over the cable by any chance?No free lunch, and no free laptop
