Electricians in Belfast

I had a small repair to complete last week, it took around 15 minutes and involved replacing a pull-cord in my bathroom.
The electrician left me a bill for £45, I thought it was quite expensive, however I called to pay him and he advised he couldn't take card payments. He also advised that unless I bring the money direct to him and other forms of payments such as bank transfer or cheque will cost me £54 to include VAT.
Are all electricians so expensive?

Do you just mean the cord itself or the complete switch?
Looks like he has charged for an hours labour, bit on the sharp side for all it was.
Did you not feel it was not something you could have tackled yourself if it was just the cord needing replaced?0 -

It was the cord for the electric shower, maybe I should have had a go myself.0 -
Sounds very reasonable to me (in fact cheap). He had to drive there; replace parts; drive back; plus an assortment of other costs to run a business. What did you expect?0

So a good deal then?0

about right for qualified person, if you felt the need to use his services.
If you wanted to save money do it yourself.

A bit on the high side is my view, I completely understand that firms have to make a living for that doesn't excuse exploiting customers.
If we take the above price as correct, after the cost of materials the electrician charged £36 for 15 minutes work and this is cash in hand too.0 -
What about travelling time to/from the job, job insurance, fuel for his van etc etc??
