That's what my nan always used to say

I was only thinking about that last night.
When we were going to bed my Nan use to say ......
Nite nite, mind the ducks don't bite.

Where did the ducks come from ?

Maybe from the pillows/quilt? Duck down/feathers?

I tend to shop in Aldi mostly so what tinned produce would people recommend from there?

    From Aldi I like:
Tinned whole tomatoes, Gherkins (which I am currently addicted to - and not pregnant!), Tuna, Ex-light Mayonnaise, Pesto (several varieties are nice), Grapefruit marmalade, Tinned ravioli (quite meaty), Rice pudding, and their cherry conserve is lovely.

I really don't like their crisps - (they’re too salty). Their tinned salmon was a let down, especially because their tinned tuna is so good. I really, really don’t like their sliced bread in any form (I’m a bit funny with sliced bread in general) and their brown sauce is revolting - I couldn't even cook with it.

ETA: I do occasionally like a nice bit of german sausage from Aldi
That sounds like a classic case of premature extrapolation.

the aforementioned store cupboard staples (corned beef and new potatoes and the carrots), I get from Aldi as I do my main shop there. now what products to recommend? Well, as store cupboard essentials I also make sure I have a couple of tins of Processed peas (for OHs faggots and peas), I can also turn a tin of Peas into pea and ham (or bacon) soup with the addition of a cup of chicken stock. Sweetcorn - that is in case of DGS2 coming forsunday lunch. Cannelini beans and chickpeas are also good and can be added to stews. red kidney beans and their Corale baked beans and Sausage and beans for when you need instant comfort food.

Mmmm craving faggots now... If I'm feeling better by the weekend I'm going to have to go to the butchers again - D*mn you!

But that's a good sign right? I must be getting better if I ant to go outside in the mankyness.

I think I'm going to have to go in for at least a half day tomorrow - Boss will probably glare at me the whole time, but even the cats are starting to get fed up of me stuck in the house :o

    My comfort food meals are

Tomato soup (must be Heinz) with lots of white bread slathered in butter

    and

Tinned red salmon chucked into a roux and served with mash with butter (hmmm I'm seeing a theme here)

    MSE Florida wedding .....no problem
  • I like fishcakes made with tinned fish (any kind) instant mashed potato and seasoning, then flour, egg and breadcrumbs and fried. Some spring onion mixed in too is nice if you have any. Served with any veg that might be hanging around :)

Depending on what seasonings you have, it can be jazzed up quite a bit and doesn't seem so much like a store cupboard meal. We also do it the day after a roast, with leftover meat finely chopped/processed (usually leftover potatoes too)

Probably more OS to make your own breadcrumbs but having a tub of them is just quite handy!

in true MSE style I make my own faggots! they are so easy now I have finally invested in a food processor! if anyone wants the recipe just say and I will post it.

We had a butchers shop near us(Palmers) and mum used to send me over on 'faggot day' to buy six faggots, one for each of us kids, one for mum and two for dad. and god knows how many tins of 'Morton' peas (marrowfat processed peas) she used for our 'faggot and peas' supper.
I have tried to 'recreate' their faggots - but never managed to replicate the taste.

Please post, but in all honesty I'll be buying most of my food for a while. I may be feeling better, but I still don't feel up to lugging appliances about :o

You could always stick some in the post for me *little Timmy cough*
