Sound suddenly gone on PC - any advice?

Tried everything... drivers appear in order, nothing untoward anywhere... just no sound.
The thought occurs that a relative who visited me midweek mentioned that he'd got rid of some 'unnecessary' processes via the Task Manager... he's now abroad and out of contact.
Anyone got any ideas?

Also try 'last known good configuration' or restore.“Learn from the mistakes of others. You can never live long enough to make them all yourself.”

if W10 update on an older machine, the sound drivers probably need re-installing. Otherwise, control panel > sound, and ensure the speakers are set as the default device, and then fiddle with the speaker properties until they come back up - can't be more specific OTTOMH, but certainly W10 doesn't play well with legacy sound devices......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -

Sorry, but that's just stepping over the line.
Next time this relative visits, and wants to do some tidying up, point him in the direction of cleaning the WC, the kitchen, or the leaves that need to be composted in the garden......0 -
I have been following this post from the start and wondering what the solution would be as my wife as the same problem with her HP laptop.
Her problem was solved today when she took it back to Currys and they installed or updated the driver. Hope you solve yours soon Charlton!0
