Monthly Yorkshire Water Costs - 3 Bed Detached House

Hi Guys -

I live in Yorkshire - our water provider is Yorkshire Water and we live in a 3 Bed Detached House - there are 4 persons in our household.

We are on a water meter and have been paying Yorkshire Water £52 a month this year - this has been calculated based on the meter readings and useage of last year.

My question is pretty straight forwards, i'm just not sure if this is something you can do or not....

At our previous house there was no water meter and i believe we only paid Yorkshire Water £24 a month which i think was just a flat rate charge.

It kind of goes without saying but i would much prefer to be paying £24 a month rather than the £52 we are now paying, so i was wondering are some people better off WITHOUT having a water meter in? - and also is it possible to ask Yorkshire Water to remove the water meter in the hope there would be a flat rate charge we could pay which would hopefully be cheaper than the £52 we currently pay ??

Thanks Nick

Your old property would have been on the rateable value tariff .That depends basically on the house value circa 1970 something or other .
Can be cheaper or a lot more expensive than a water meter.

You will need to check your water meter readings and stop wasting water .
They will not remove the meter but if they did then this house is not your old house and the tariff may be a lot higher .

My 3 bed semi rateable tariff rate would be about £600 this year .
  • I think you will find that you cannot revert back to the old system based on the rateable value of the house. When we elected to have a water meter fitted some years ago we had a 13 months trial period in which we could revert if desired. As we now pay a lot less for our water, there only being two people in the property, we did not excorcise the option, We are with United Utilities in the N West.
