late payment of gas/eletric bill

Options
hi, guys
I would like some advice on the following matter, got my gas and electric with first utility for about 2 years on a fixed rate contract, paid by direct debit monthly and gave correct meter readings monthly, the contract ended April 2015 and in that contract period was paying £64.00 per month, after April was put onto a standard rate tariff, first utility put monthly charge up to £77.00 to cover new tariff, may, June, July, debits were taken at £77.00 per month, august bill was only £70.00, on the 11/08/2015 changed energy supplier to SSE ,
first utility took a couple of weeks to give me the final bill, which come to £101.00 please note the last few months were spring to summer months,
first utility insist the £101.00 final bill is correct, I DO NOT AGREE,
what do you guy think I should do???
if I refuse to pay the £101.00 whats the worse that can happen??? please let me know,

all the best, bluesfloyd.

Are the bils based on ACTUAL not ESTIMATED readings ?
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill
  • hi,
all the time I was with first utility I gave correct meter readings each month, the final readings for gas/electric I gave first utility, we both agree are correct,

SSE decide the change of supplier reading. Does the CoS reading agree with what you gave? If not contact SSE and raise a dispute on the CoS reading. If they don't agree First are breaking the rules.
As to your final bill the best thing to do is calculate the total cost of energy you used with them, subtract the total of payments you made and see whats left.

On what basis do you dispute the bill you have received?

I would suggest you follow the suppliers complaint procedure explaining those reasons. :)

    Debt collectors

    Default on your credit file

    Credit trashed for 6 years

    County court judgement

Sort it out as soon as you can..... even if you have to pay it first then argue the dispute.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
  • hi guys,
sorry about the late reply, thanks for the above posts, I will pay the bill but then I WILL argue the dispute.

    all the best, bluesfloyd,

Have you actually checked the final bill? Did it use the final reading you supplied?

A debt could accrue even if you were paying the amounts FU recommended. Normally, if you were to remain their customer, you may not realise a debt had accrued because they would spread it over future payments so you would just see your monthly payment increase.
