Amex missed payment

Hi all

Can someone please advise as my amex payment has been missed by 3 days as when i got the card out i didnt set up the direct debit.

today i received the email from amex saying payment was missed and then i called them and paid the full statement balance.

I also called amex and they said they do not know if it will affect my credit history or not

can anyone else had a similar experience or do you know if it will affect my history or not

What card is it, if it is a charge card, the payment is actually due approx 2 weeks later than it says it is due! Some people always pay 2 weeks "late" and there is no problem with that.

For credit cards, you should be fine if it is 1 day late, but I don't know about 3 days late.
  • If they charged you a late payment fee then they will probably record it as a late payment. In the very short term 1 late marker on your file may have a limited impact but as time moves on and provided it is the only late marker it probably isn't going to be a major issue.

Different lenders will have different lending criteria so some may see a single late marker as a problem, others won't.

Is this a chargecard or credit card? In the case of chargecards the actual payment due date is usually later than the dates they put on the statements to encourage you to pay by.

No you're not doomed. As mentioned by someone already, wouldn't worry about it provided you keep on top of future repayments for all cards/loans. I will probably show on your file as one missed payment.

I missed one card payment 3 years ago. I got the late fee but I set up a Direct Debit afterwards. No missed payment since and I still qualify for other credit cards.
