Botch job by plumber, invoice sent over a year later

Yes, asked for breakdown and received a revised invoice. We then deducted what we had paid to Baxi and paid the balance as we were so tired of the first engineer's angry rants. We basically paid more than the parts but we just wanted the matter closed. Thought it was until recent threatening letter from dca.0

Bris, not sure re Baxi engineer - just reporting what he told us. He fixed problem in double quick time and said casing was loose. First engineer said on his last attempt at fixing boiler that he had left the boiler running perfectly - when Baxi engineer turned up the gas was still off at the mains - so boiler had def not been running!0

I hope you can get some good advice here but it looks like you ignored the previous advice and were intimidated and gave in. I do understand this but it's pointless asking for advice then caving in.0 -
Hollydays, we didn't cave in. We deducted what we thought was fair and paid just slightly more than the price of parts. Advice was greatly appreciated and utilised.0

A loose case still doesn't make sense, what makes even less sense is the £360 to tighten the loose screws.Bris, not sure re Baxi engineer - just reporting what he told us. Unless you have been taken to court and the claimant has a judgment against you (CCJ) then you can safely ignore a debt collector - they have no powers whatsoever.
You may have seen Here Come The Sheriffs or similar ... these are High Court Enforcement Officers or Bailiffs and operate under the powers of the court - debt collectors do not. (Even though you sometimes get companies who function both as bailiffs and debt collectors, and are not averse to blurring the lines between the functions when acting as debt collectors to coerce people into paying).0 -
The fact that he took over a year to invoice you doesn't affect the validity (if any, which seem doubtful) of his claim. What matters is what he quoted, and what he did, or did not do. £1200 would have bought you a new boiler. No free lunch, and no free laptop
