  • You can download Microsoft Word for free. That's Piracy. However, why not use Microsoft Works Wordprocessor application. Otherwise, use Openoffice.org office suite which contains a Wordprocessor called Write and which is just as good as Microsoft Word 2003.

    Hi
Word is part of 'Microsoft Office' package. It's not cheap to buy.
But there's an alternative free package called 'Open Office'. This has a word processor in it which will open Word documents and allows you to save your work in doc format.
You can download the package from here:-http://www.openoffice.org/

Besides buying the Student edition of office for about £79, or using the above options, you could also look out for for the Works Suite which includes Word. I've seen older versions with Word 2002 for £29.

Alternatively, if you want the "official" Microsoft Office 2007 (including Word), try www.Software4Students.co.uk where you can pick it the basic version up for under £36.

AbiWord. Its opensource and save as word document.

It is simple but if all you want to do is type text and do basic formatting it can help.

Is a tiny download and a copy can be kept on the USB key used to transfer work about.

If works fine on Win95/Win98 and Linux and Apple OSX so older hardware can run it where Office 2008 won't install.
