Barclaycard retentions for "loyal customers", £50 credit when u call to close account

I have a Barclaycard which I haven't used for some time since the cashback rate dropped on the VISA card.

I rang them to cancel and was offered £20 to keep it open, I refused and after taking my details to close the account the advisor then increased the incentive to £30. I said I'd keep it open for £50 and he checked with a supervisor and got it done.

Not sure if it will apply to everyone, he was emphasising that I am a loyal customer, with them for over ten years etc.

Yes, they've been doing this for 2-3 years now.

I had two lots of (from memory £50) bribes to keep the account open, but a third attempt resulted in them calling my bluff and closing it.

I've contacted then in the past week and they offered me £20 and an apr reduction to 15.9%apr for the life of the card. Other half rang and they gave her £50.

Worth a try even if you dont want to leave haha
