Timing would have been the reason. However, think about the result in a similar fund with lower charges. Although to be fair, at just £15pm, the choice would be so limited, that high charge options would likely be the only things available. You get better choice at £20pm and near whole of market choice at £50pm

Return average up to press has been 6.2% PA over 15 years.

I don't doubt that there have been higher returns on other products but I have been well chuffed with its performance - especially in these later years.

I'd agree timing has been a major factor.

PS £15 a month was a lot of money 15 years ago ;-)

I was trying to be a little humorous dunston but...

A £15 contribution per month commitment for 16 years 15 years ago (for a Godchild) was a lot of money to me dunstonh.

We're clearly on very different pages of the IFA book!

    Anyway back to the OP!

No doubt your 12% return will be paid for in part by those people taking out the much less generous policies available today.

No doubt, although I'm not forcing anyone to take them out. In the same way that I never forced anyone to make minimum payments on their credit cards, thus in part funding all the cashback I got from mine over the years. and I'm sure other Santander customers are subsidising me for the various ways I'm making money from them. Etc etc...
