Quality laminate or real wood flooring?

Don't go for real or engineered wood unless you can afford good quality - cheap engineered wood looks horrid, like cheap laminate does.

I've got QuickStep in my lounge. When the furniture and rugs are on it, you'd be hard pushed to see the repeats.

Find a quality karndean flooring suppliers and take a look at the options they have. It looks the same as real wood flooring and it much cheaper. Its very hard to recognize the difference between the two if you find a good supplier.
