Firefox seems slower than IE to me...

I've downloaded and installed Firetune, no difference noticed as yet. When I say slower, I mean slower to launch or launch new windows than Internet Explorer. Has anyone else noticed this?

Maybe your home page on Firefox is different to the one you used with IE?
When I had a slow processor (1Ghz Duron) Firefox was mucher quicker for scrolling than IE. Now I have a 3.4Gz Intel (64 bit) I don't notice any difference in scroll speeds.0 -

Yes I also found Firefox about 20-50% slower than IE - not only to launch but also generally. It does build up the page in quite a different way too. I carried on using it for about 4 weeks however in the end I switched back to IE6 and run much happier again. I had a number of problems with various sites such as ebay - I went to various Firefox sites looking for help - but without any luck.
I know most people seem to prefer Firefox once they've tried it, however that just hasn't been my personal experience.

From reading around it is slower at launching than IE. IE is also an integral part of the operating system so has that benefit when lauching.
Go back to IE if you're not happy with Firefox. It's not as insecure as people make out as long as you've taken the neccessary precautions. A decent firewall (hardware if possible), anti-spyware and all the latest updates and IE is fine.
Me, I'm currently with Firefox, although at work I have to use IE and Firefox."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0 -
As was mentioned, the reason is that Microsoft refuses to divulge some of the time saving processes built into some of the Windows kernel, which allow Microsoft programmes to function more quickly than others, simply because they have access to these.Scott0

heres some tweaks to get firefox running/loading faster, first off type about:config in the addy box, then look for the following entries>
network.http.pipelining
network.http.proxy.pipelining
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests
then>
Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"
Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true
Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to 30
ok, now right click anywhere in the field and select>
New > Integer
and type this in nglayout.initialpaint.delay
then you will see it listed,. ....... right click again and set its value to 0 (zero)
– Scroll down to nglayout.initialpaint.delay
– Double-click nglayout.initialpaint.delay
– Change the default value of 250 to 0
– network.http.max-connections = 64
– network.http.max-connections-per-server=21
– network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server=8
shut Firefox down then re-open.
hope that helps0 -
Also download a small prog called Firefox downloader, keeps a small bit ofFF in memory and speeds it up a treat, along with the tips fron Ianian99.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

I find firefox's extensions/plugins are very nice.I have the session saver which opens the last pages you closed it on.
Opera has a similar facility.
Useful on forums as you can read a bit, shut down and go away and then startup and continue where you left off.0 -
I find that tweaking Firefox for 'Fast computer - Fast connection' settings makes it slower. Firefox stock settings work best for me....0
