Disputing a Default

Options
My wife has recently found out that she has a default on her file from a Car Insurance company in 2013. We believe that this has happened because we bought a new car and the cost of insuring the new car on an existing policy was more than cancelling and setting up a new policy which is what we decided to do. However at the time we believe that the insurance company didn't make us aware of the remaining balance that we had to pay, we subsequently moved a month later (we did leave a forwarding address and are registered on the electoral roll) and have never been contacted about it. The only reasons she even knows is because she had a look at her credit file and it was on there.

Is there anyway we can dispute the default as we had no idea about it, and if so how would we go about it? It's a very small amount (£92.00) which we are happy to pay and had we known at the time would have been happy to pay.

Thank you in advance for any advise.
