How do I connect my Samsung TV to my mobile wifi?

Hi all,

I hope someone can help me, as I am a bit stupid when it comes to techy things.

I have a Samsung TV that I want to connect to my Vodafone mobile wifi.

When I go on the menu>settings>network, there are 2 options:
Network type: cable
Network setup

The network type section is greyed out, I cannot select it to change it to wireless to search for my dongle.

Is there anyway I can connect via my mobile wifi to the Internet?

Do you have a "Samsung Wireless LAN Adaptor"? The manual says you need one, sold separately.

No I don't, my tv is second hand so I don't have the manual. So I can buy one of these and it should work? Thanks for your help

Always worth doing a search for the manual to download, a huge proportion of electronic kit comes with little or no paper these days so you can usually find instructions online.

It does look like it will make your TV internet enabled if you buy the adapter, but whether it will work with mobile wifi is less certain. I found it for £9 on ebay, although I suspect it's discontinued as on Amazon it's a whopping £299, with the newer model at £25 (but I can't say whether the new one will work with your TV).

I can't see any reason why it shouldn't work.

A wireless network adapter, connects to a WiFi hotspot, which is what you get with a MiFi Modem, which is what I believe the OP has.

If the TV has WiFi via a USB Connection, you will need something like this.

The only thing I would say is, watching video uses a lot of data, so it could easily become expensive, on mobile WiFi.

I'd agree in theory, but if you look at the TV manual the procedure for connecting it to broadband seems quite complicated and I'm just not sure how easy it will be using something other than a straightforward router. For £9 it's probably worth a try, the OP can probably resell the adapter if it doesn't work.

As long as the connection is wireless, rather than via an Ethernet cable, there shouldn't be any problem, because the WiFi from a MiFi Dongle, is exactly the same, as the WiFi from a wireless router.
