Need a decent builder in Bedfordshire: how to find?

Not sure if this is the right place. We are planning an extension to our house and need to find a decent builder. Unfortunately the guy that we were intending to use may be moving out of the area (way out) and may not be available for us.
Our neighbours both have extensions but both were done by previous owners so no leads there.
We don't know anyone else in the area to ask.
I listen to the local BBC consumer programme every day and they ALWAYS say to go on recommendation rather than getting someone off the internet.
If anyone knows of a good, reliable builder who would cover the Luton area I would appreciate a nod in the right direction. Even by PM.
