Amazon Echo in the UK

I really like the look of the Amazon Echo but from what I have read it is not officially coming to the UK so my question is, is there anything like it that works in the UK.
Some of the features I like are
1, Not rechargeable, simply plug in and leave.
2, Ability to be heard from a distance.
3, Decent speaker so it can be heard from a distance.
OK Google is great but I'm not aware that it is available in a suitable unit. Maybe the Echo can be re-engineered with Android!

I'm not sure I would want an always listening device in my home (assuming GCHQ don't already have one of course).0

I have just combined an old iPhone 4S with a radio that has an old apple connector. This gives me an always powered iPhone and a decent speaker for the iPhone to use. I can now use 'Hey Siri' to meet your requirements.0
