Virgin Media E Mail not downloading to Outlook

Options
Help. I have an ntlworld web mail account with virgin media. And while I can access emails via web mail They are no longer down loading to outlook on my PC ( outlook 2010 running on windows 8.1). This is really strange as emails are still downloading to my I phone. and even stranger is that while outlook says it's working off line (and send & receive function doesn't refresh the connection) it's still possible to send emails - I am also still able to access the Internet via explorer.

I contacted virgin and went through. Settings / ports etc and all is ok. They then said it was a software problem with outlook and refereed me to Microsoft. Spoke to Microsoft went through microsoft repair process on PC - made no difference. They then said I needed to pay £65 for any further advice. I thought this was a bit steep

Interested to know if anyone else has had this problem and if they managed to resolve it? Any advice welcome.

As you say it has worked, we can (or should be able to) ignore any set up issues. One assumes that it is an imap account rather than POP3? Shouldn't Outlook be working on-line? What happens when you click Send/Receive in Outlook? I had this issue a few weeks ago (with BT rather then VM) and spent a very pleasant Sunday trying every solution offered by Uncle Google, including deleting and restoring account, changing passwords etc. and nothing worked. Next day all back to normal - it had been an ISP problem all along! Grrr.

First confirm the word IMAP was mentioned during the setup (just to be sure).
Second, in Outlook, suspend (don't delete it yet!) your Virgin account from synchronising (send/receive), then add your Virgin account (yes, another one)... and watch syncronise occur from scratch. When you're happy the second account is working, delete the first.
If you put your general location in your Profile, somebody here may be able to come and help you.

The Virgin Media Email, Cloud and Webspace community forum has lots of stuff about problems with NTL email accounts during the conversion. Blueyonder chaps have already been through it...
