Extra Energy - Help

I have read most of the main thread ever since I joined them just over a year ago. My first bill has come through, and surprise surprise, the estimated direct debit didn't cover it. Probably to get me to sign up in the first place.
I was kind of hoping that they would have sent me a bill long time ago (yes, I know, I know, I've read the thread) so that I could up the DD. Anyway, my contract finished 30 September and I wasn't offered any fixed rate, so now I'm on variable, with them upping the DD to a more realistic amount and trying to claw back the deficit in a short time, so the DD has more than doubled.
Now, having read the thread, i know trying to contact them is nigh on impossible. If I could, I probably say, tell me your fixed rates, reset the DD for the right amount and up it by £10 a month to claw back, and it is your fault for not billing me that it got like this, so your going to have to settle for that. Only I can't see that happening, so the only way out, seems to be to switch supplier, and then offer them a repayment plan for the deficit - that way, even if they ignore me, they can't apply for a warrant to switch to pre-pay meter.
The only trouble I have is that the bill I got (online) does not have annual consumption. Have I missed it somewhere, if so, can someone point out where I should be looking. If it is not there, how do I use the comparison sites to check prices? Also just looking for confirmation that this is the best plan to extricate myself out of this situation.

Why do you not know your consumption?
Do you not have any earlier bills? Do they not have readings on them?
Why can't you just use an estimate of your annual consumption if you don't want to track down an actual one?
It is probably easiest to just switch to Extra Energy's Dec 2016 tariff and pay things up over the next thirteen months - that tariff is a good price, you won't have to pay another four or six weeks of heating usage on the standard tariff whilst waiting to switch to a different supplier and you won't then have to manage two payments.0 -

Because I rely on the service provider to do that, EDF used to send a quarterly bill, with usage, be it provided by me or estimated, I then checked their estimation against the meter, if it was wildly out, I would enter a customer reading.
As I said, no, this is the first and only bill after 14 months. It also seems from the other thread that it is nigh on impossible to contact them to arrange anything.
Yes, but if I stick with them, I will have to pay back at their hiked rate for their incompetence. If I cancel the DD, they might apply for a warrant, if I switch, I can then tell them my terms on repayment and there is nothing they can do to my supply. They could try the courts, but any county court judge will tear them apart for setting the DD too low based on my previous company usage and not providing a bill for 14 months so I could check what was happening. Plus I would have given a repayment plan, and finally they would have to go through the mediation call, which if they rejected, would also count against them.
Finally, I don't want to be having the same problem over the next year. I want a company that will answer the phone so that I can sort things out. Is it really too much to expect an energy supplier to provide quarterly bills and usage readings/estimates?0 -
Comparison sites i just estimate or use average as all that counts is the actual standing charge and unit cost .0
