I think the most important think is to do types of exercise that you actually enjoy. If it is a chore then it is too hard to keep it up. I do trampolining and I really enjoy it but that doesn't mean everyone else will. It suits me great though because I can keep learning new things so it isn't repetative and it is a sport you can really get something out of at any level. Having said that garden trampoines are really no comparison to the proper thing and, frankly, pretty dodgy from a safety perspective so I'd warn people off that. It is much better to join a proper club or class where you can participate safely (well as safe as trampolining gets, it is a sport with a risk element but coaches do their utmost to control it) and you can actually learn new moves instead of just bouncing up and down. Otherwise you might as well just get a rebounder/trampette which would be safer. I think potentially people can get more benefit under the instruction of a coach because they will work on things like technique, posture and core strength which helps to prevent injuries but also makes the exercise much more effective. If you do trampolining right you end up with lumbar, abs and pelvic muscles of steel and it is effective aerobic exericse too. On the other hand trampolining can be hard on your ankles and particularly your knees which is something all women should be aware of, not in relation to trampolining particularly but more generally, because cartilage wear of the knees is a common problem in women and knee injury affects a great many women involved in sport.

The best thing to do might be to visit your local sports centre and see what different classes are on offer. I've been thinking about taking up boxercise. Joining a regular class in something you enjoy will probably motivate more that trying to keep up a solo exercise routine, though all power to you if you have the discipline to do that.
