Gas engineer caused gas leak and charged 5 x agreed price to my card!

The fact that the engineer installed the hob and fixed the leak for £200 highlights the first company were rip off merchants!
Send a letter before action immediately to the firwt company givng them 14 day to refund the £500 otherwise you will take them to court. State that you have also reported their dangerous practice to gas safe, and also had a reputable emergency engineer fix their leak and carry out the installation for £200, so if it goes to court, you will also be pursuing them for the extra £90 the job has ended up costing you to fix their mistake.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')

It's perfectly possible that the gas supply was already in a dangerous state and that even a competent, non rip-off RGI would have encountered a gas leak when connecting up the gas hob. However that doesn't justify leaving it in a dangerous condition.No free lunch, and no free laptop
