Car insurance quote question

Hi.... Wonder if anyone can help me? I am 47 years old and passed my car test a year ago but have had a full bike licence for 30 years. My insurance on the car is up for renewal and I want to know if when I fill in the question 'how long have you held your licence', do I say the total amount of time I have held the licence or just 1 year. Also when completing wether I have had any claims, do I include just the 1 I have had in the car or any bike ones too. Thanks in advance

Your no claims are what you have on the current car, you cannot add on
    no claims from other policies.

How long have you held a licence may vary the Aviva rep said they counted years when you had a provisional so the bike years may count.
Not sure if all companies are like that. When i queried it some years back they want to know how long i held a licence for that category of vehicle.

You need to ask the insurer.

  • See my query really is about wether if an insurer is only interested in how long I have held a licence for the category of vehicle insurance is for ...them surely any incidents before I had that category of licence shouldn't count. Otherwise they should include the years of experience too!
  • I need your advice. I currently have an insurance policy, which runs out in January 2016. I have 9 years no claim bonus, and by January 2016, I hopefully will rack up 10 years NCB. My issue is this, I want to move my policy to a new car, but the quote given by the Insurance company is excessive. If I cancel the policy with the insurance company, i will loose the year bonus. How do I get out of this circle.

Having 10 or 9 years NCD will make very little if any difference to your future premiums.

(You can do dummy quotes online with 9 and 10 to see)

So see if it is cost effective to cancel now and start your new policy or swap cars on your policy till it ends then switch.

Indeed, this is what I'll be doing when my new car comes as I can get the cover significantly cheaper from other providers (enough to more than cover the cancellation charge).

You may even find that your current insurer won't record no claims after 9 years anyway, so if you really wanted to state that you had 10 you might have to go to some trouble to prove it, probably for next to no benefit.
  • The amount the insurance company is asking for is a whole lot. Interestingly, I am not due for any refund. I have fully paid the premium, so they are happy to see me go. What do I do now!?!?
