I rang PolicyExpert to tell them not to auto renew my home insurance. The menu gives two options, option one if you wish to renew your policy, option two if you are thinking of cancelling your policy.


I pressed two and after several minutes of listening to music and a recording saying they were very busy I hung up and rang the number again, this time I pressed one and was surprised to be immediately connected to an operator.


Is this a deliberate ploy by PolicyExpert to make it difficult to cancel your policy.


You can renew your policy online but they do not offer a way to cancel online.

The same used to be true of the credit card companies Citi and MBNA, phone the 0800 new customer number and you get through to customer services instantly, phone the 0845 number and your on there for 20 minutes where they make money from you.

New FCA regulations effective 26 October 2015 require financial services including banks and insurance companies to use 01, 02, 03 or 080 numbers for existing customers to contact them on, and not use 084, 087 or 09 numbers.
